Handling Business Challenges

Everyone hopes to start a company and never face business challenges. However, even the wisest and most resourceful owner will experience obstacles.

What makes a great business leader is how they handle business challenges.

Complications can arise from a variety of sources: employees, customers, product creation, shipping, severe weather, malicious hackers, electrical outages, and a host of other factors.

When your kids are sick, the cat used your favorite recliner as a litter box, and you open the garage door and see an unexpected foot of snow on your driveway, those things can affect your work, business challengestoo.

The reality is that life is messy and we all face things that are unplanned and can knock us off course or overwhelm us. Business challenges happen to everyone. It’s how you face those challenges that matters.

Where to Start

The first thing to do is to take a deep breath along with an objective look at the situation.

Ask the following two questions:

  1. On a scale of 1 (least) to 10 (worst), how serious is the problem or each current issue?
  2. On a scale of 1 (it’s easy to take action that makes a difference) to 10 (you have no control), what needs to happen to resolve each issue?

Next, focus on the more serious issues and take action on the solutions you can control.

Business challenges come with a variety of solutions. However, not all of those solutions will fall under your personal set of strengths.

Be Honest and a Leader

When someone hacked my site a few years ago, I initially felt overwhelmed. I didn’t know how to fix the problems caused by the hack or how to prevent future hacks.

However, because I was willing to admit that I didn’t know how to fix it, I was able to seek help. Sucuri’s experts got me back in business quickly. It could have taken me months to figure out solutions for the many business challenges that came with being hacked if I hadn’t delegated.

My clients were understanding about the inconveniences the hack caused because I was honest with them, and I learned valuable information that keeps their sites safe without the loss of time and money I experienced.

By assessing how serious an issue is, you can mentally adjust your emotional response to appropriate levels. And by focusing on the solutions and actions you can control, you’ll be more effective and efficient at solving current business challenges and preventing future problems.
